My RC helicopter's main drive gear is damaged after crash? What should I do?

The RC helicopter I fly is a Silverlift Gyrotor, a cheap helicopter that you can just buy out of a shopping mall. I've got it as a birthday present in 2007 and I crashed many times without any damage. But at the beginning of 2008, I crashed and I discovered that one of the "teeth" of the main drive gear broke off and got lost. The chopper won't fly as properly and I never have got to fly it ever since.

I'm thinking of ordering a new gear online, but I don't trust online shopping, and they don't sell spares at where I bought it from.

Should I buy a whole new 4ch helicopter or something if I want to stick to flying Rc. Or should I keep searching for a main drive gear?

To be honest, Silverlit is a very dependable manufacturer. If you didn't let go of the throttle during the crash, that is probably the reason why it broke.
But anyways, you probably had enough fun with the Gyrotor, and it is time to move on to a 4 channel helicopter. Something that is a coaxial maybe?

The E-Flite Blade MCX ($119.99 USD) is a nice small helicopter that is very durable and the parts could be found at nearly any hobby shop. If you want something bigger and could fly outdoors, the Blade CX2 ($179.99USD) or Blade CX3 (199.99) is good. Very fun helicopters to play with. You could go with a single rotor helicopter as well.
The E-Flite Blade MSR is another small helicopter and is very durable. It runs at $179.99.

Also, online shopping is safe, you just have to be careful with who and where you're buying from sometimes.

As for your birthday present, do not throw it away. Hang it up and give it the illusion that it is flying or display it on the shelf.
